Anne why are you writing books about how alcoholic losers ruin people's lives? Don't you see that romanticizing douchey behavior is the proper literary convention in this family! Honestly.

| Zubby Darkstalkers Tribute |
[10 Jul 2009|02:24pm] |
I finally got around to posting up my Darkstalkers Tribute art piece of Hsien-Ko, the Chinese ghost. For those of you who don't know the character, she has all kinds of weapons and silly items up her sleeves that she attacks enemies with.
Like with my Street Fighter Tribute pic from last year we were free to interpret the character our own way, which was a blast.

We're still taking online orders for the limited edition hardcover edition of the book for another 3 days, so if you want a copy and aren't attending Otakon, San Diego Comicon, Toronto Fan Expo or PAX, this is your last chance.

An exclusive first look at a forthcoming short series via Avatar Press.
(It’s not actually steampunk. And there’s not really a serial killer.)

I was still thinking about bodies and houses and things. So: body as landscape, face as iceberg. And I like the idea of a body with a keyhole. Also, the image of someone raising their shirt or opening their shirt to show something is quite intriguing to me.

| Inkstuds Dirtybird |
[10 Jul 2009|01:54am] |
|
Originally published at Inkstuds. You can comment here or there. When I first started doing the Inkstuds show, many years ago, I had my good friend Robin Bougie design me a flyer. Knowing me as well as he does, Bougie creator a wonderfully awkward image of a bird type person as my stand in for radio show hosting. I have the nick-name Dirtybird that was given to me when I used to play hockey with some friends and was known for not being particularly good, but scrappy as all hell. So that’s how we get the Inkstuds Dirtybird. My extremely self-indulgent habit of late, has been to commission cartoonists to do their versions. I am really happy with what I have been getting in the mail. You may have already seen the Joseph Bergin III image that I posted a couple of weeks ago. Today, I got another amazing piece. Many thanks to Paul Hornschemeier for lower his standards and taking my filthy money and turning out something truly terrible and wonderful. I was going to save this for my upcoming major good news, but I couldn’t wait.

#360: Switched At Birth - Chicago Public Radio |

The New Yorker just bought another cartoon.
Here is one of the rejects;

New Too Much Coffee Man cartoons up on my website.
Yes. The one woman really was wearing antlers.
Just saw Amanda Palmer at the park. I brought a cd (cds are becoming the new LPs (ie. they're from a bygone era (there's a joke in there somewhere))) for her to sign but she was surrounded by bunches of goth type people. She was reading stories Neil wrote for her. It was sort of cool but it was also a little much for me to deal with.
I just got back from my highschool reunion. About 10 people came up to me with ideas for New Yorker comics. A friend of mine said "there's not enough alcohol here to make these people interesting."

| Luckiest Cover |
[09 Jul 2009|06:32pm] |

The cover I drew for the next book. The book was due out this month, but due to all manner of sad things kept it on the back burner. It'll be ready for print by the end of next month.

| City of Sin, City of Comics |
[09 Jul 2009|05:25pm] |
Las Vegas signings this Saturday.
JH3. Me. Detective Comics #854. Comic Oasis and Alternate Reality comics.
And just for added emphasis, JH3.
Really, the only thing that could make this better would be if Cully could make it, too. Which he can't. And that makes me sad.
So I will share Cully art with you. Not now, because, y'know, I don't have any with me, but soon. I promise.
It'll be worth it.

Troy Little’s Angora Napkin is fine, fun little gem of a comic. Its one of those books where you can tell that the creator is having lots of fun making it. He also has Chiaroscuro, which seems to take on the darker part of Troy’s imagination.

| All I want, All I neeeeeeeed |
[09 Jul 2009|12:44pm] |
A couple tiny sketches out of my tiny sketchbook, the...
 1)
 2)
- ZUKO from Avatar! My fav character in the whole series (voiced amazingly by DANTE BRASCO, who also played the amazing RUFIO in HOOK). Mebbe it's not a huge secret anymore, but I recently did some Avatar work (which should be showing up soon?). And I'm kind of working on a new pitch for a short involving this boy.
- Ceasar and ?????????????????? from SHARKNIFE. My boyz. Ceasar continues to evolve (though I held some new things back in this sketch). And the new guy to his right... is a pretty huge deal. He is totally top secret for now.
I might go to Hawaii.
Today is in high contrast to the kind of shittiness of yesterday.

Okee-doke, two things to cover real quick: First off, I'm selling all of my PVC Justice Society and Justice League of America figures over on eBay. I sort of hate to get rid of them, but I just have no room to display them anywhere, and they've been sitting in a box for the last year and a half. SO! Wildcat, Green Lantern, Johnny Thunder, Dr.Mid-Nite, Aquaman, and a bunch of other figures all over on my eBay merchant space; if nothing else, they're neat figures, you ought to go over and check 'em out. I find the Spectre in particular to be a really nicely designed piece.
======
Secondly, for you lovelorn and lost souls out there just looking for someone to answer all the big questions in your life, now you can check in with the wisdom of Deke Zibinski, bartender and co-owner of the Northside Tavern in Baltimore, MD. The truly excellent Wasted Words podcast is now accepting new questions for their Ask The Bartender segment, you can learn more here, and enter to win fabulous prizes (that is a blatant lie, there are no prizes). Says The Wasted Words website:
"Please send your question to info@wastedwords.net with the subject line “Ask the Bartender.” Be sure to include your name or something fake and clever, so that we can can attribute it on the air. You can also submit questions through the discussion board on the Wasted Words Facebook page."
And that's all. PS Wednesday Comics was amazing, wasn't it? And 'ta!
